The Properties And Application of Nitinol

What does Nitinol mean?

A shape memory alloy is Nitinol. This is a unique alloy that automatically returns its plastic deformation back to its original shape when heated up. It has an expansion rate exceeding 20%, a fatigue lifetime of up to 1*10, the 7th power and damping properties ten-fold higher than those of standard springs. Also, it resists corrosion better than any medical stainless steel. This allows it to meet various engineering requirements. It’s a great functional material that can be used in medical applications.

The memory alloy’s unique shape memory function is not the only thing that makes it special. It also offers excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high damping.

Property of Nitinol: Phase Transformation and Properties

The name nickel-titanium alloy refers to a binary combination of nickel and titanium. Two crystal phases can be formed due to variations in temperature or mechanical pressure: the austenite phase and the martensite phase. Nickel-titanium alloy cooling results in the phase transformation sequence austenite-R phase-martensite. The R phase has a rhombohedral structure. Austenite has a higher temperature than normal. This is the temperature at which austenite begins, or the temperature when it stops. It’s also cubic in shape and is very hard. This shape is very stable. Martensite phases occur when temperatures are relatively low (less that Mf, which is the point at which the martensite stops), or when they have been loaded (activated with an external force). It is hexagonal and ductile.

The application Nitinol

Clinical use of Nitinolwire:

1. It’s used to align and level the patient’s dentition early. Nitinol Archwires are used as the first stage of clinical treatment because they have superelasticity and shape memories. The patient will feel less discomfort. MBT technology, which uses 0.016 inches of heat activated nickel-titanium alloy archwire (HANTwire), recommends that the DEMON selflocking bracket technology use copper-containing heat activated nickel-titanium manufactured by Omro. O-PAK Correction Technology recommends that alloy archwire be used for alignment and levelling. Phase transition temperature at 40 degrees is the reason.

2. Nitinol extensions springs, push springs, and Nitinol Nitinol Nitinol pull springs are orthodontic springs. These super elastic springs can be used to treat orthodontic problems such as opening up gaps between teeth or pulling teeth in different directions. A nickel-titanium coil spring can deliver a force of approximately 50g when it is extended by just 1mm. Because of their elastic properties, nickel-titanium coilsprings can generate a force of about 50g when extended by 1mm. They also have the ability to produce a soft and steady continuous pressure under tension. Because of its low attenuation the force can be used to move clinically moving teeth. Conform to the requirements. High elasticity wire tension springs made of Nitinol have low permanent deformation rates and high elasticity. The release correction force of Nitinol wire tension springs is approximately 3.5-4 times greater than stainless steel wires the same size. In orthodontic treatment the patient feels dull and lasts. It reduces follow-up times, decreases treatment duration, and has a better curative effect. The new, superior mechanical device for orthodontic treatment is the best.

Because of the outstanding electrical and thermal properties of Nitinol, its widespread use is in semiconductor electronic packaging.
